Travel Ninjas - German American Friendship BBQ - Mainz

 The banner greeted us as we walked into the park...The German-American Friendship BBQ!  A yearly "unofficial" event to bring the American military and German communities together over food, laughter and friendship.Held in the People's Park (Volkspark) in lovely Mainz.

Food tents were mad crowded.

This DJ was one of the organizers and also owns a local sportsbar.  Mogul!

He suffered over the flames for my food.  God bless him!

I didn't win a single thing.  But I did get HIT with a few items thrown into the crowd.  Grrrrr.  All in the name of fellowship!!!

Line for food was long, food was free after a short while.  Yay!

We enjoyed the sights and sounds and I (the visiting Ninja) thoroughly enjoyed hearing English, although most of the conversations centered around the Trayvon Martin verdict and how a lot of these beautiful Black men don't feel valued in the USA and have no desire to come back.  A sad shadow on an otherwise beautiful day.

We left full of food, laughs and things to think about.

 All in all it was a glorious trip.  We learned so much more about each other, an old friend and the beautiful city of Hamburg!

Travel Ninjas - Hamburg Day 3...The Lion King...Day 40

The day has finally arrived.  We went to see The Lion King musical!

We rested most of the day as we wanted to be fresh and ready for the show!  Excitement was in the air...even on the bus!

We had to take a boat to cross the river to get to the theater.

The yellow boat is the Nala...the boat for the cast and also for theater-goers.  We were on a different boat.

Pulling up to the dock beside the theater.  Let the Magic begin!

We were greeted by the Lion himself in half of his makeup...

In motion and getting ready to perform!

He led us backstage and introduced us to some of the cast and sat us in the break-room where the cast has a full service kitchen, gourmet chef and terrace to chill on in between shows.

Most of the cast was outside soaking up the sun!

The show was completely in German but believe me I felt every word and of course every song.  "Circle of Life" gave me chills.  A classic performance by the whole cast but especially Darrin Lamont Byrd as Mufasa.  Wow.

Travel Ninjas - Day 2 in Hamburg - Day 40 in Germany

Day 2 of our vacay to Hamburg...

Awoke to a beautiful breakfast and lots of sunshine!

We headed to the "bohemian" section of Hamburg...

We had a delicious lunch of sushi and satay...

We walked down to the magnificent Elbe...

The machinery on the Elbe river.

It's the Lion King! More on that later.

The boats on the harbor and the beautiful city skyline.

We said bon voyage to the Lion King (Mufasa aka Darrin) and headed to a nearby "beach bar" for a drink!

The sun was shining and the drinks were cold.  Delish!

We headed back home and rested for the day.  A beautiful glimpse of Hamburg on day 2

Frankfurt Train Station - Hamburg Day 1...Travel Ninjas

We made a trip to Hamburg over July 4th weekend to see an old friend of the Harrisburg Ninja.

The train station in Frankfurt is breathtaking.

I so enjoyed the people watching and the hustle-bustle of everyone getting to where they needed to be.

We got on the FlixBus - cheap price AND free wifi for the whole 7 hour bus ride!  Score!

The countryside was amazing as well...

7 hours of bus fun was over.  We got to our beautiful host safe and sound.  Hot food was waiting for us in a beautiful apartment that would be our home away from home for the weekend.  It was magical.
