Hidden Places...Somewhere in Hessen...Day 22

The heat is still here...95ish and we were happy to find more water.

Native Ninja knew of a "secret beach".  We couldn't find it on day 21...but on day 22 we sort of found it. It's near the city of Trebur.

First there was the narrow road to get there...

Narrow!  No guardrail at all...just the high Rhein River!

Did I say Narrow?

We found a spot...but alas...the Rhein is still too high from recent flooding.  All of the beach areas are still flooded. :(

We drove on and found this interesting beer garden.  A former farmhouse with stables.

The building covered in greenery was the former horse stable.

The horse stable from the front view.

Is love carved into your door?

We walked around like we were on a private tour, saying hello to those sitting and sipping on their beer in the hot sun.  We found this...

A private beach behind the beer garden!

I was amazed that the children were playing in the high water.  We decided not to try our luck by pitching camp there.  I mean it was a private beach LOL.

After grabbing an ice cream treat from a little store we headed to a FREE lake in Darmstadt!  Woot!

Rinsing off before and after dips in the lake.

A few peaceful spots as well.

The Travel Ninjas soaking up the sun.

Here's a brief video:

The beach club didn't happen....the address was right but the club was GONE.  So we headed to an Australian bar and had Strawberry Caipi (ours was red of course)

The official drink of Brazil...chin chin!

It was another great day of seeing new things, enjoying the hot weather and loving life!

Florsheim...Flooding...

Day 9 Florsheim...Flooding

Seen on the Autobahn...

A clear sign...
Where are we going today?  Florsheim.  To visit a friend and get a wig done.

This was the most beautiful wood I'd ever seen.  Seriously.  Stacked so pretty and safely.  The colors mesmerized me...

Beautiful pieces of wood...

The reds were so red, the browns were so brown. I'm sorry.  I digress...

We got to Florsheim safely.  I kept asking the Native Ninja...does Florsheim have something to do with shoes?  Floorsheims shoes?  She told me no, looked at me like I was crazy and kept walking.

This is why I asked:  (from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florsheim_Shoes )

Notable People

Michael Jackson, The King of Pop, would wear Florsheim Shoes to dance in. He would wear the models Como and Como Imperial. He would have leather heels installed.[2][3]

It's wayyy too coincidental that the town and the shoe have the same name.  But back to our story.

Walking to the friend's house I saw the fanciest Smart car ever...

That's a Smart car???
The news has been showing very sad footage of bad flooding in East Germany since last week.  Unfortunately the flooding is also in this Central (Middle) area as well

Streets blocked off, the Rhein river water is TOO high.

A ramp broken by the high water.

Restaurant's outdoor patio underwater (white closed umbrellas).  God Bless them in re-building.
So this was before we went inside for the hair styling.  When we came back out (about 3 hours later) there were kids playing in the water like they were at the beach.  I was shocked.  This is something that is NOT allowed at home.  When our river rises the police monitor the banks just so that people don't go into the water.

Water, so necessary yet so dangerous.  A sobering thought for a Ninja.

We traveled back home safely after a beautiful day out.

As always you are welcome to travel with us.
