Breaking Out

Breaking Out

Whenever I feel like my world is too small I travel.  I save some money, book a flight and go somewhere that is unfamiliar to me.  I "break out" even for just 7 days to see something new.

My short trips abroad have only stoked my curiosity to want to see more.  Asia, many countries in Africa and many other destinations in Europe are on my bucket list.  I will see more and more because I dare to break out of the every day and fulfill my dreams to travel.

Breaking out doesn't mean that I am leaving my current situation behind.  They say wherever you go your problems follow, so I'm definitely not running away.  I'm taking a break, re-grouping and allowing myself to focus on something other than the every day life issues.

When I get back I am refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to tackle whatever was troubling me before I left with new eyes.  Traveling expands your sensibilities.  It gives you more perspective.  For me it allows me to be grateful for all of the things I have at home.  Yet it helps me realize that the world could be my home as well.

Take some time today and think about what it would be like to visit a different country.  Take some time and look up some places you might like to go on the Internet.  Then take that next step, look at your finances and book that ticket.

The world is waiting.  Go for it.

Travel Love...

I dreamt big as a girl.  Deciding early on that I would be an opera singer that traveled the world, with a house in every major city and a trail of stories to tell my grandchildren.

Fast forward to 2013 and I have traveled a little, never sung an aria on a stage and have no children to have grandchildren.

My goal is still to travel the world, collecting stories and memories that I will share with the world.  One trip, step and goal at a time I will see the places I want to see.

I'm in love with traveling.  The romantic idea of it quickly dims when you look at airline fees, rude TSA agents and taking off shoes repeatedly.  But once you are AT your destination it's all worth it.

I love the quote above because it speaks the the spirit of travel.  To read about Greece, then to actually stand on the cliffs and look at the blue water.   To speak Spanish in 7th grade and then have those words come back to you as you try to order food in Madrid.  Traveling is in my blood, my core, my heart.

Let Sabine guide you on a magical adventure in Frankfurt.  You will not be disappointed. Sabine's email (tourguide@ok.de)

The Euromast in Rotterdam

While visiting Rotterdam in the summer of 2012 one of our stops was to witness the beautiful Euromast!

(For more information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euromast)

The Euromast is an amazing tower set in the middle of a huge garden.  The view from the top level was well worth the Euros we spent for entry.

These are people repelling from the top of the Euromast.

One of the repellers was Batman!  Or a guy dressed up as Batman...same difference!

The 2 images below are just a few of the breath-taking views from the top of the Euromast.  There is also a restaurant in the tower with huge windows and a gift shop.

Contact Sabine today (tourguide@ok.de) to set up a customized tour of Rotterdam or any other European city.  You will NOT be disappointed!

Tulip world @ the Keukenhof

For only a limited time in Spring will you be able to visit this awesome flower garden of blooming tulips in Holland.

Keukenhof Garden is the world famous flower show with millions of beautiful flowers and plants.

It is easy to combine a visit to the Garden with a trip to Amsterdam or just the Garden on its own.

My first visit was many years ago and every year I would like to go back as this is the best indication of spring to come. I have never seen so many tulips, the national flower of Holland, in so many different colors and sizes. Did you know that a tulip can grow up to 2 yards from the ground?

Although Tulips are the spring flowers and very beautiful, my favorite flowers are Orchids. The Keukenhof holds a separate greenhouse just for Orchids, in all different shapes, sizes and colors.... so beautiful.

In addition to the very aesthetic arrangements and tasteful set up of every area in this huge park, there are many other surprises of exotic plants and more for its visitors.

For 2013, the Keukenhof opened on March 21st and closes on May 20th.... so hurry and join me to "tiptoe through the tulips!"

Get On The Bus!

There are many cool things to see by just walking through a city, but what if you have a physical ailment that prevents you from walking long distances?

I've found that most major cities in the US and abroad have bus tours.  They can be a tad pricey but well worth the money if you are unable to walk around and see sites under your own steam.  Or if you are like me, you like to see a lot of sites utilizing very little personal energy!

Tickets for the Madrid tour bus in particular were reasonably priced at $22.00 (USD) for two consecutive days of "hop on and off" travel.  My travel companion and I would get on the bus in the main square, ride around and view the city and then stay on to hop on/off as we chose.  It was an awesome way to see the older and newer parts of Madrid and have a "shuttle" that ran from 7 am to 12 midnight.

I can't recommend one tour company over another but we did choose the flashy red bus above because at that time (2006) it was the one that had the most comprehensive number of stops and sites.  Feel free to research the bus schedules once you arrive at your destination so you can get the most bang for your bus buck!

We encourage you to sample the city utilizing this great resource.  Most of the tour guides are very friendly, most of the information regarding each stop is translated into several different languages (using headphones that have pre-recorded information) and they will even answer your questions about different points of interest.

Enjoy your next city adventure on the bus!! Contact Sabine (tourguide@ok.de) to help you schedule your next trip to Europe.
