Tio Pepe

We'll always have Tio Pepe.  He was the beacon that let us know we were on our way to our next adventure in Madrid or on our way back to our fabulous hotel.

We always picked a "landmark" every where we went in order to keep our bearings.  It's hard to find your way when you are in an unfamiliar town.  Everything kind of looks the same and the streets seem to be unorganized.

Yet Tio kept us on track and focused.  A cactus wearing a Mexican sombrero and poncho, he was truly a character that I remembered vividly from the Madrid experience.

We have taken to calling each other Tia because it is a fond memory of a city we explored together for the first time.  New experiences, food, wonders and magic abounded.

My travel friend/guide/companion and I will always have Tio Pepe.  What character will leap into your heart on your next travel adventure? Contact Sabine today to set up your next treasured trip full of memories! (Email:  tourguide@ok.de)

Where Do You Want to Go?

Antelope Canyon, Arizona, USA

Where do you want to go?  I know it's a difficult, multi-layered question.  But if money was no object, you had time off of work and the kids could get out of school, where would you want to go?

For years I have always charted different places on maps that I would love to travel to. Now with the magic of the internet I can do picture essays of where I want to go.  The picture above is one that someone posted on Facebook.  Can you imagine a sight such as that?  Beautiful sands right here in the good ole USA.

Where do you want to go?  Are there places in your mind and heart that speak to your soul that you must stand in before you die?  If there is somewhere you must see then start making plans today to get on that bus, train or plane and go.

Life is for the living.  Sabine is available to show you around Europe for a small fee.  She can organize everything and take away the stress of the details.  Contact her today tourguide@ok.de.

So, where are you going?

Russian church in Wiesbaden, built for the Duchess of Nassau

Located on Nero Hill in Wiesbaden, Germany...

As impressive as the story behind it, this Russian Orthodox church was built to mark the occasion of the early death of princess Elisabeth.  She was the niece of the Tsar Alexander and the grand duchess of Russia. She also became the duchess of Nassau by marriage to the German Duke of Nassau in 1844.  Wiesbaden was a popular resort in the 19th century and is still a very beautiful city today.  It is one of the most visited cities in the Rhein-Main area.

Don't just stare from a distance.  Come and visit this historical yet modern city of elegance and prestigious charm. Approximately 30 min from the Frankfurt airport, this church should be on your visit agenda during your next long layover instead of waiting around at the boring airport....

Let Sabine guide you on your next visit or fill your layover time with a quick adventure.

REUNION!

The oddest things can make you want to see a new place.  I was looking at this blog's statistics and saw that someone from Reunion had previously viewed the page.  I was curious where it was, so I looked it up on Wikipedia :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reunion (pick the first link Reunion the French island)

Ok, so I've never heard of Reunion.  I don't speak a lick of French and really have no clue about where to find it on a map (google is my friend!).  You would think those simple things would deter me.  But no!  I want to walk on those white sand beaches and do a bit of "parlaying" with the locals.

My wanderlust knows no bounds!

What are you waiting for?  What location has piqued YOUR curiosity?  There are many places on the planet to explore and I have a deep yearning to see as many of them as I can before I expire.

Reunion is the latest one to be added to my bucket list!  I'm excited to see how I can make this happen but I already know who will get me there in the most cost-efficient and safest way! I trust every one of my travel adventures to Sabine only!

Let Sabine (tourguide@ok.de) lead you to your next destination!

Dubai

My first visit to the Arabic world of the United Emirates was Dubai. Dubai has an exquisite airport that comes into view when the plane lands in the desert. A different world greeted me, one that was so modern (think “westernized”) with buildings and facilities that look Arabic yet Asian in the same design.  Then there are the beautiful people in their traditional outfits, both men and women.

One of the luxury hotels

There are many “female only cabs” which are Dubai’s 'pink taxis' with a female driver who is only allowed to transport single females or mothers with their small children. I took a pink taxi to my hotel room and felt happily safe as a non-burka-wearing, female tourist traveling alone from the Western world.  I felt those 'strange' looks, especially from male airport staff in their crisp white uniforms.

Dubai at night

It was a hot month when I visited, but nearly not as hot as I thought it would be in September.  It was about 100 degrees.... at night. Can you imagine how hot it got during the daylight hours?   I wondered how people survived in such hot weather if not in the comfort of an air conditioned room.

The view from my hotel

Pure luxury was seen all around, whether it be a shopping mall, hotel or simple Metro station.  They spared no expense in designing and creating works of art with their buildings.  Air conditioning is a must in this country where energy and water are like the air you breathe.

 The Mall

Sightseeing in Dubai at sunset was amazing.  How beautiful to see the famous Burj al Arab looks in its sailboat shape and the Burj Khalife Tower, the tallest building of the world ( right now) in front of one of the biggest malls in all of the United Emirates.
Burj al Arab

Modern Dubai was nestled next to the traditional creek with its older town buildings, souk markets and Asian smells.  Dubai is just one part of the United Emirates, with so many different faces and definitely more things to do than I could manage during the length of my short trip.

I will go back for sure and you can feel free to come with me! My email address is: tourguide@ok.de
